How big was the Moore, Oklahoma tornado?

In spring 2013, a massive tornado cut a massively-destructive path devastating the town of Moore, OK. I worked with journalists at CNN to create this infographic that helped provide context to the size, power and destruction caused by the storm. We used Manhattan as a reference point for demonstrating the storm’s size because it is something many Americans, and people the world over, have some conception of as far general spatial dimensions. The graphic appeared by itself on CNN’s site, was used to accompany stories about the tornado, and was converted to be used in broadcast reports of the storm.
